Exploring the Spiritual Path of Lonliness

I recently met someone who seemed to have everything together on the outside. A wonderful business, an unbelievable talent in what they do, and a home looking out over the tropical trees in Bali.

They were soulful, spiritual, and mystical - Yet they were deeply alone.

I see this a lot - people who seem to have it all together on the outside, quietly suffering on the inside.

In this case, it was someone with almost magical powers, using their gifts to help others heal and understand themselves. To offer guidance from a higher place and help people make better decisions.

I know it might sound a bit crazy - and lately, I’ve caught myself wondering if I’m going insane. Though insane people don’t ask themselves that question.

And I’ve seen enough to believe there is something more magical in this world that some people are able to tap into.

But this gift often comes at a cost. It can isolate the bearer from the rest of the community. I find that deeply sad. Yet I also believe it’s been this way since the beginning of human history. The wild shaman on the edge of the village. The oracle who lives alone atop the cliff. They’re needed - but they rarely fit in.

“The spiritual path can be a lonely one,” this person said to me.

I don’t think it has to be.

But those on the path must seek out new people and environments - and more importantly, risk being fully themselves in order to find others who resonate. I know that if I hadn’t been completely open with this person, we would never have had the connection we did, even if it was brief.

Being open, honest and vulnerable is the key to finding one's real tribe.

Of course, it’s not easy. Especially for someone with so much Pisces in their chart.

When we met, I asked if they were a Pisces - and they were. I asked if they had 12th house planets - they had four. A classic psychic configuration. And they were extremely psychic.

The sensitivity to others is overwhelming at times. That’s the painful paradox of Pisces. They long for deep connection. They’re profoundly empathetic. But they’re also so permeable - completely absorbent of energy and emotion - that connection itself can feel unbearable.

Imagine sitting at a bar or in a yoga class -longing to connect with everyone, but so sensitive to rejection that you can barely say a word. The old double-edged sword.

Hello, Pisces.

No one has ever guessed my sun sign. I’ve hidden it well.

It’s not an archetype that’s been widely accepted - especially not in country Victoria in the '80s. But I am, and always have been, a deeply sensitive Pisces sun.

I want to connect. I want to know people. But sometimes, I’m still terrified to talk to anyone.

Still - I keep showing up.

Because it’s the only way through loneliness: to keep putting yourself on the table.

Not everyone will get you. Not everyone will see you.

But when someone finally does see your Sun—it’s magic.
